Question: I saw waterdogs in the store the other day and could not find out exactly what they were for. Are these scavengers? They were frightful looking and very big. Could you please offer insight? Thanking you in advance!!

Answer: James,

Water dogs (actually mud puppies) are young salamanders, as they grow older they will grow out of their gills and into their lungs. And spend the rest of their days eating bugs and living under a rock or log. For now they like to eat fish food, dead and or sick fish. They do look neat.

Thanks and I hope that this was helpful,

Scott
