Question:
Hello,

I have a small pond, 600 gallons or so. I have 6 Koi and 6 shubunkins. No matter what kind of plant I put in the pond in the pond...it gets eaten by the Koi. Then I have bare pots of soil.

Is there any plant safe to put in that the Koi will not eat? I have been through water lilies, cattails, water celery, hyacinths, water hawthorns, umbrella grass, and lizards tail.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Answer:
Lee,

If you try feeding the koi and shubunkins some duckweed you may curb their appetite for the other pond plants.

You can also grow the plants in screens so you can see the plants and the fish can't get at them.

I would also add some stone to the top of the pots to cover the soil. This will also deter the fish from stirring up the mud.

Thanks and I hope that this was helpful,
