Hi,

I have a question about my goldfish in my pond. I haven't seen my 3 goldfish in a few weeks, they have been hiding under the waterfall. Anyway, they came out today and one of them has white on it's sides (both sides) maybe the scales are gone?? What can I do?

Connie from Plymouth, Michigan.

Thank you for your help.

Connie,

They might be hiding from a predator, or from the sun. If you cut back on the feed for a few days then they might get brave again. As far as hiding under the waterfall usually the fish stay beneath the falls because that is where the oxygen levels are highest. If you have been turning off your waterfall and not running it all of the time (24 hour a day, 7 days a week) then that is probably your problem. As far as the white spots you may have a disease, they may be getting a few "grey hairs", or they could be tubercles that the males get before they spawn. Usually about 1/16 in in diameter, hard, white and bumpy. On their gill plates, and sometimes their from fins.

Thanks and I hope that this was helpful
