7/14/99Question: Also my koi, in another pond, are acting ravenously hungry. It's been warm lately and we feed them 3 times a day. If I put any water hyacinths in the pond, they tear them apart, eating the roots. They are acting like a gang of juvenile delinquents. What gives? Thanks for any light you can shed on these 2 questions. Margaret Answer: The fish in the other pond are looking for something green in their diet and you might try feeding them some duckweed. You can also grow the hyacinths in a float that is surrounded by screen. That will let the hyacinths grow and pull the nitrogen out of the water, and keep the fish off of them. Thanks and I hope that this was helpful Scott Bates |
