QUESTION:

THANK YOU for your response! I have been reading on one of the chat forms and someone was saying they feed their koi worms. Are there any benefits to that?

Also I have a new koi that I introduced to the pond last week. it is just staying still.

When should I start getting concerned?

ANSWER:
Metro,

Feeding the koi worms is o.k., as long as they are being eaten and not decomposing on the bottom.

I feel that the high protein levels are one benifit.

With that one koi that is just sitting still he could have a social disorder (ha) . It may take time for the koi to become acclimated to the new home and room mates. If you are concerned about disease look for clamped fins, gills pumping hard with little physical activity, poor locomotion or lack of co-ordination (swimming heady like a tadpole). Then you can address a more specific problem if one even exists. I have found that water quality and diet are of extreme importance to healthy fish, and good growth rates.

I hope that this was helpful.
