Question: Could you please e-mail information on canna roots. I would like to know proper procedures to plant, maintain, and grow these roots. I would appreciate any information, links or addresses. Thanks for your time...

Answer: Sue,

The canna roots are planted about 1 inch below the soil line with the growth tip pointing up. If you are planting the aquatic varieties you might consider putting stone on the top of the soil and tuber to keep the fish out of the mud. This will also prevent the tuber from floating out of the pot. After the first hard frost when the foliage turns brown the cannas roots are collected and stored for the winter. Storage practices that we use are as follows. Let them dry out and keep them from extreme temperatures. Normally between 45 and 60 degrees. When they start to sprout get them in a pot with some water and light.
