4/28/99  Subject: Frog Problems

Q:I live in Tampa Fl and I'm currently renting a house that has a small 180 gallon pond in the backyard. I plan to have larger ponds next year when I buy my house, but I want to get a handle on maintaining this small pond before I try for something larger.

My question is this There is a rather large frog living in the area and at night she gets into my pond and eats my fish. She already laid eggs once on my lily and I've still got a couple of tadpoles running around in there. How do I get rid of this frog? I keep buying fish and she keeps eating them. I can't get a cover for the pond because it's made of different size rocks. Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Eric....

A: Eric,
Short of destroying the frog you may consider catching it and taking it to another pond owner who wants it. I have found that frogs are easiest to catch in the dark with a flashlight shining in their eyes. Hope that this is helpful.
