Hello Fellow pond owners,

Good things are happening at Grass Roots Nursery and in your backyard water garden, let’s keep it that way.

What you can expect to see in your water garden at this time.

  • The appetite of your fish and critters will start to decrease.
  • The koi and goldfish have cooled off and slowed down, spending more time in the deeper water.

  • The tree leaves are starting to collect on the pond bottom.

What can I do?

  • Net the debris from the pond bottom.
  • Feed the fish a diet higher in carbs and lower in protein (Fall Food).

Sale Grass Roots Nursery

Grass Roots Nursery is having a summertime sizzling sale. Discounts range from 25%-50% off on selected items. Go to for more details. Did you know that over feeding your fish is a major source of nutrient input into the water garden? That alone can contribute to green water and other undesirable algae growth in the water garden.

Grass Roots Nursery News Letter

Fellow pond owners, Thank you for requesting to receive our newsletter. Enclosed you will find pond opening procedures, tips, specials, and announcements. Open it up. Time once again to clean up the debris on the pond bottom, adjust the pH if needed, clean our filters, and move hardy plants back to the correct depth. We can turn on the pump and tweak the filter valve a little so it is running just right. We will be getting our ponds/water gardens at Grass Roots Nursery up and running this week, weather permitting. Adding micro-organisms like Klear, Sludgebusters, and a little dab of Nutripak will help get the bio-system started and ready to roll. Following up once a week with a dose of each will help to maintain the system. We have not fed our koi or goldfish outdoors yet. Water temps closer to 50'F are the key. Once the water warms up the appetite of the fish will increase. Feed them then. We have Premium Blend Koi and Goldfish Food ready. What can you expect to see this time of year? Not much at first, if you look a little closer you will see some or all of the following good signs. The water will be a little cloudy and maybe if your lucky a little green. Some string algae that can be removed if it gets out of hand. A small leaf and stem just starting to appear in your water lily pots. Limited activity from the fish, cruising along the water surface catching a few rays of sun to warm them up. The fish working the edge of the pond and feeding on the algae are good signs. The frogs and turtles are still hibernating maybe coming out to bask in the sun on a warm day and vanishing again when it gets colder. http://www.grassrootsnursery.com/specials.htm The above address will take you to our specials for the month of April Thank you and we hope you have a prosperous 2006 The next mailing wil be in May The staff Grass Roots Nursery
